Schinkel’s Splendid Cottage is a door knob and a key. By holding the knob and turning the key the cottage begins to take shape. It takes six hours for the cottage to be complete, but packing it away takes only one minute. The cottage can be placed on any relatively flat space large enough to accommodate it.
The temperature inside the cottage is 70° F if the exterior temperature is between 0° and 100° F. An exterior temperature below 0° or above 100° lowers or raises the interior temperature on a 1-degree-for-1 basis. The cottage also provides protection against the elements, such as rain, dust, and sandstorms.
The cottage is 30’ X 30’ and has a simple peaked roof. It has both a front and back door with porches at both. The simple floor plan is much larger inside than it’s external dimensions, with a comfortable sitting room, kitchen, dining room, breakfast area near the back door, bathroom with plumbing, and up to twelve comfortable bedrooms. The cottage starts with two bedrooms, but doors at the end of the hall open onto additional bedrooms for additional guests. When there are more room occupied, the hall becomes longer (long enough for five more rooms on each end of the hall).
Brand new Schinkel’s Splendid Cottage comes with simple furniture for two people and a small number of guests. A closet off the dining room will produce chairs and other simple furniture items to host up to twenty-four people. These items may be taken outside, but they cease to exist at the next sunrise (they will be available in the closet once again). Personal items and furniture may be moved into the cottage and will be present if the cottage is taken down and put up again.
Foodstuffs in the cottage when it is taken down are preserved, but items in the cottage when it is up age normally. There is no food in a new cottage, but there are simple cooking utensils and dishes. These may also be replaced by items of the owners preference.
